What is a Street-turn?

Street-turn and matchback (or triangulation) are used interchangeably and refer to the matching of import and export containers to minimize the miles driven, increase container velocity and reduce emissions.

A street-turn or matchback occurs when an import container move is matched with an export booking inland to eliminate the transportation of empty containers to and from the port - an import shipment may be reused for an export shipment without first returning them to a terminal, rail ramp or container yard. Connecting containers inland is an economic and environmental win.

Street-turns and matchbacks save money and help the environment.
