Street-turn and matchback (or triangulation) are used interchangeably. These terms refer to the matching of import and export containerized loads to create a full tour.
A street-turn occurs when an import container move is matched with an export booking inland to eliminate the transportation of empty containers to and from the port – an import shipment may be reused for an export shipment without empty moves between a terminal, rail ramp or container yard.
Container reuse inland will minimize the miles driven, improve efficiency, and reduce emissions for an economic and environmental win.
